Fundraising concert for Mac McClung Â鶹ÊÓƵ Choral Award scheduled at Â鶹ÊÓƵ Oct. 25
Appreciation for a grand music performance will go hand-in-hand with philanthropy, as acclaimed tenor Joey Evans delights audiences at a fundraising concert for the Mac McClung Â鶹ÊÓƵ Choral Award Saturday, Oct. 25, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall. Tickets are $10, with proceeds benefiting the Foundation fund.
Evans will be accompanied by Â鶹ÊÓƵ alumnus Russell Young (’85).
Evans, a vocal professor at the University of Houston, will also present a master class for Â鶹ÊÓƵ students Friday, Oct. 24, at 4 p.m. in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall.
He has appeared as leading tenor at La Scala, Ireland’s Wexford Festival, the New Israeli Opera, the English National Opera, the Welsh National Opera, the Opera de Nantes, Orleans, and Nancy, at La Fenice in Venice, Austria’s Bregenzer Festspiele, the Grand Theatre de Geneve in Switzerland, and at the New York City Opera.
One of his performances was recently hailed by French critics as “an interpretation of unequaled perfection. The American tenor is a magnificent artist, sensitive, expressive, intelligent, graced with a voice of great beauty, and one of the finest actors of this generation.â€
Young, Evans’ accompanist, has appeared with many notable artists, including Kathleen Battle. He is also well known as a collaborative artist in chamber music and is a conductor. He received his master’s degree in music performance at Â鶹ÊÓƵ in 1985.
